Once it became apparent that Garnett could become a Celtic, Stern said,
the NBA held the release of the 2007-08 regular-season schedule to get
more Boston games on national television. Stern added that the trade,
which was made July 31, would be good for both Boston and Minnesota.
 
"I like to see stability," Stern said. "But in the collective
bargaining agreement, veterans like KG get to approve where they go. It
was clear to me that it was something he was in favor of at this point.
I think he’s paid his dues in this league to be able to have that
option. He’s not the first, nor will be the last, future Hall of Famer
to move.
