The next time
you tell reporters that your team drafted O.J. Mayo because your people
thought he has more upside than Kevin Love, don’t turn around a few
hours later and let your people trade Mayo for Love.

Love is a
skilled offensive player who will look good next to Al Jefferson. But
the Wolves rate the edge in this deal because they acquired
sharpshooter Mike Miller and dumped the contract of Marko Jaric.

John Denton/Florida Today lists the Wolves among the "winners" of the draft:
Kevin McHale wanted Kevin Love allalong, and he got him in a trade for
O.J. Mayo. And McHale got sharpshooter Mike Miller, to boot. Now, just
make sure he doesn’t trade them to the Boston Celtics.

The good: They got the player they love (pun intended) while stealing Mike Miller from Memphis.
The bad: Now they have two quality power forwards and no center.
The grade: B+
Instead McHale continued working to get the player the team truly
coveted, Kevin Love. In addition to landing Love, the Wolves picked up
a desperately-needed outside shooter in Mike Miller and were somehow
able to unload a mediocre Marco Jaric and his all-star caliber
contract.
In Love, the Wolves pick up a player who former Milwaukee
Bucks all-star Marques Johnson compares favorably to a young Larry
Bird, and coaching legend John Wooden compares to Wes Unseld and Bill
Walton.

the T-Wolves drafted O.J. Mayo and then worked out a savvy midnight
deal to get the talented Kevin Love and Mike Miller from Memphis (while
also, to the dismay of my gal, getting rid of stubble-faced Marko Jaric)…

Regardless, Love will be a great fit next to Jefferson and should help kickstart the running offense the Wolves can play with Randy Foye, Rashad McCants, Miller and Corey Brewer. With Love’s ability to make outlet passes and his great vision when passing out of the post, expect him and Miller to become very good friends.
From Randy Kim/Fanhouse:
Minnesota Timberwolves: B
(Acquisitions: Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic)
There’s
no question that Mayo would’ve been an odd pairing next to Randy Foye,
and there’s no question that Love is a great fit next to Al Jefferson.
But just call this a sneaking suspicion that letting Mayo go will come
back to haunt the Wolves.
