Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said he was glad to see Kevin Garnett win an NBA title with the Boston Celtics and had no mixed feelings about watching the longtime Wolves star do it with another team.
“I was happy for KG," McHale said. "He got in a perfect situation for him. I always said with KG, he needs to be out there with more primary scorers and more people that can do that. … Here, we had Kevin in a situation where probably we were asking him maybe to do a little too much scoring, a little bit too much stuff. Out there, I think he fell into a (perfect) situation. I’ve often said that Kevin’s really kind of a pass-first player. Out there, he’s making plays and doing a good job so I was happy for him.”
FWIW, I think Ryan Gomes has great potential to be a corner-trey
shooter on the Wolves, continuing the franchise’s modest but noble
tradition of Sam Mitchell, Malik Sealy and back to Mitchell (and no,
Tod Murphy doesn’t count).

Mayo is a good player whose game translates well to the NBA and he has the potential to be a star, but the Wolves would be better off working with the guards they have.
Minnesota would be best heading in the direction of a big man and that might mean Kevin Love or Brook Lopez who are expected to go later in the first round.
