The Wolves staff is scheduled to fly to Houston next week for joint
workouts with the Rockets. The week after that, the Wolves are expected
to bring in another group of players, led by UCLA freshman Kevin Love.

Mike Trudell/Timberwolves site talks to Craig Smith about his offseason plans (audio):
As always, the Rhino took us through several other random topics …
just for fun. For example, Rhino is engaging in Tai chi, reviewing
movies like "Juno" and "Iron Man" and letting us what jokes he’s been
cracking with teammates on the phone.

What will the Timberwolves do with the No. 3 pick? Do they like Kevin Love as much as rumor has it? Will they go for center Brook Lopez as a natural complement to Al Jefferson? Will they trade back? Their decision will be hard to anticipate.

"No matter who you take [in that area], somebody’s going to
second-guess you,” a Western GM said. "There is no consensus No. 3
pick.”

Casey, meanwhile, posted a 53-69 record during 1½ seasons as head coach
of the Timberwolves, though many believe he got a raw deal. Minnesota
was 20-20 when Casey was fired Jan. 24, 2007. His replacement, Randy
Wittman, has since gone 34-90.

People familiar with Casey describe him as a nice person who possesses
excellent people skills and works well with young players.

One league insider believed Casey would have fared better as a head
coach had he not gotten constant interference from Minnesota general
manager Kevin McHale. He also was saddled with chronic underachievers
such as Ricky Davis and Mark Blount, who joined the Timberwolves in a
trade from Boston a few months into Casey’s tenure.
