Wolves Updates 11-23

Game previews:
Guard Rashad McCants missed Friday’s game against Boston because of back spasms and Wittman said his status for Sunday night’s game at Detroit is uncertain.

Guard Kevin Ollie (strained calf) is doubtful.

Wolves point guard Randy Foye, who will have the assignment of guarding Iverson Sunday night, said it’s a matter of style.

“I think because Billups is more of a guard who feeds off his teammates,” Foye said. “Iverson feeds off himself and it’s kind of hard sometimes for other players to adapt to that.”

When the Timberwolves’ season began two victories and nine losses ago, coach Randy Wittman anticipated those times he could play three 40 percent three-point shooters from last season — Mike Miller, Randy Foye, and Rashad McCants — together so they could spread the floor for big Al Jefferson.

With 11 games gone, Miller is shooting 42.1 percent, Foye 20 percent and McCants 18.8 percent from three-point range.

From Don Seeholzer/Pioneer Press:

The Timberwolves shot 11.8 percent in the third quarter of Friday night’s 95-78 loss to the Boston Celtics and tied a team record by hitting just two field goals, but those weren’t the only ominous numbers.

On the occasion of Kevin Garnett’s Minnesota homecoming, against the reigning NBA champions, the Wolves attracted a less-than-capacity 19,107 to Target Center, which raises a couple of questions.

Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor says he has no trades working, but added, “We have a lot of draft choices; we’ve put ourselves in some pretty good positions” for the future.
Well, I have this theory: McHale is a lousy decider because he was a great player, not despite it…
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor and eight members of his family recently returned from India, along with Bill and Tani Austin, owners of the Starkey Laboratories in Eden Prairie, after having distributed more than 3,500 sets of hearing aids to those in need. Taylor spent $200,000 for the hearing aids and did other things for the needy in India, while the Austins made great contributions, too.
