From Jonah Ballow/Timberwolves site: Friday Training Camp
–Surprisingly, Jefferson is ahead of schedule and ready for substantial minutes on Sunday. The big man attributes the loss of 30 pounds to his lack of knee pain during training camp. Currently, his only issue is conditioning. Jefferson’s legs have taken a beating but he remains positive and enjoys the feeling of fatigue as opposed to a structural issue with the knee. Once Jefferson gets back into basketball shape, he will begin to look like the 2008-09 player that was on the verge of an All-Star season.
Al just had a regular-sized bag of ice on each knee after this morning’s practice. Thursday night, he was practically wrapped in ice.
“I had six on yesterday,” he said. “It’s a better day than it was yesterday. My knee’s fine. I haven’t had no problem with my knee all of training camp. The rest of my body? That’s a different story.

“I went six practices. They didn’t know if I’d be back for training camp, so to be back is big time. They didn’t want me to overdo it. My knee isn’t hurting at all. It’s my thighs, all these muscles I haven’t worked in a long time are getting overworked, really. They’re just letting me know I have to slow down a little bit. It’s most definitely a conditioning thing.”

# Rambis said he would not make any roster cuts until after Sunday night’s preseason opener against Milwaukee at Bresnan. The team will break camp after the game and return to the Twin Cities.
Sunday’s game is at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the Bresnan box office.
# Ukrainian forward Oleksiy Pecherov had part of a cast that was protecting a broken bone in his left hand removed. He did some light shooting after Friday morning’s practice. He will not play Sunday night.

From Jerry Zgoda/Star Tribune: Five years later than anticipated, Wilkins finally gets to join Wolves
Unlike veterans Antonio Daniels and Mark Blount, who both are home searching for work elsewhere, Wilkins said he wants to be in Minnesota, even though Wolves boss David Kahn told him there’s no guarantee he will be here all season.
“The way this has evolved, it will be a nice fit,” Kahn said. “He has been in this league a long time, and I think having him in the locker room will help. And I think he has some game left, so we’ll see how this plays out.”
Wilkins, 29, said he never once thought about asking, or demanding, to be elsewhere.

Brewer said he’s feeling few effects from the knee surgery, outside of a little soreness, through four days and eight practices at Minnesota State’s Bresnan Arena. But he’s also feeling pretty good about the new up-tempo style of coach Kurt Rambis, taking him back to the days when he won two national championships at the University of Florida.
“We’re going up and down more, cutting to the basket,” he said. “All the stuff I did at Florida.”

From Bethlehem Shoals/The Baseline:The Baseline Sees All: Minnesota Timberwolves
Well after the morning practice, the two guys who stayed on the floor were James Singleton and Drew Gooden. Singleton was mostly having fun, practicing dunks (this is getting to be a regular exercise for him). Gooden, however, was undergoing some intense tutelage from guest coach Kevin McHale and assistant Dwane Casey. Gooden worked extensively on baseline jumpers and on positioning himself to receive in-the-lane entry passes.
