Game previews:

Jefferson played 35 minutes Friday and Rambis said he still needs to get into better condition while he returns to full strength from February knee surgery.

“We talked to Al the other day about this,” Rambis said. “We don’t want him to coast for 30, 35 minutes. I’d rather him play really hard in shorter bursts. He’s frustrated with himself, but he’s not in condition. I’m very pleased with his defensive commitment. He’s trying to rebound. He’s trying to defend the post. These are things I was told he wouldn’t do, and he’s clearly making that commitment.”

Credit Timberwolves President David Kahn for his candor when it comes to last week’s extension granted to former University of Florida forward Corey Brewer. “I do believe this is a trader’s league right now,” Kahn told the Pioneer Press, essentially reducing the wayward-shooting Brewer to little more than a trade chip. Of Brewer’s inaccuracy, Kahn said, “He has to become a reliable shooter in this league or he won’t play.”
Kahn has a timeline to rebuild the Wolves.

“I want to be in a position within the next two to three years — two at the shortest, three at the latest — where we’re in the playoffs,” he said. “And I hope by then, or shortly thereafter, that we’re not only just making the playoffs but are one of the better teams (in the NBA).”

Kahn said the Wolves will have the money to attract top free agents.

“Absolutely, and we’ll be aggressive adding pieces,” he said.

It’s looking more and more that the Timberwolves could end up with Best Buy as their arena naming-rights sponsor when Target Center’s deal is up in three years.
