Dean Cooper, elevated to Rockets vice president of player personnel
before last season, accepted a position with the Minnesota Timberwolves
to become an assistant coach, an individual with knowledge of the
decision said Monday.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are bringing training camp back to Minnesota State University.

A Timberwolves spokesman said that an official
announcement on the site of this fall’s camp will likely be made
sometime in the next few weeks, but assistant general manager Fred
Hoiberg said Tuesday that the team will be practicing at Bresnan Arena
during the first week of October.

The Timberwolves also held camp here in 2006.

Kevin McHale’s plan to spend money comes next
year. He’s already dialed in on free agents he wants on what should be
a good free agent year.

With number one draft pick Kevin Love playing
very well in the summer games in Las Vegas and the fact that the Wolves
still think they can get better, don’t be surprised if they don’t at
least try to make one more deal before the start of training camp.

Timberwolves rookie Kevin Love has averaged a Las Vegas NBA summer league-best 15 rebounds and 20.7 points while shooting 45 percent from the field.
