When it opens in 2010, the new Twins ballpark will be named Target Field.
 
The Twins announced Monday morning that Target Corporation has agreed
to a 25 year deal that includes naming rights to the stadium…
 
Target also has naming rights to Target Center, where the Timberwolves
play NBA basketball. Target pays $1.25 million per year to the team.

 

 
 
An
additional shard of naming rights-related news rumblings on the day
that Twins and Target officials announced their naming rights agreement
in principle, was that Target’s other named Warehouse District pro
sports facility, Target Center, could be renamed after Target Field
opens.
 
“This may be a transition to give the Timberwolves another named
sponsor,” said Millsport’s Panich, referring to the redundancy of
having two branded sports arenas within blocks of each other. 
 

 

 
Target now controls the names of the two largest entertainment venues
in Minneapolis, with Target Center a long fly ball away from Target
Field.
 
"It’s a nice opportunity to extend our visible support of the area," Target spokeswoman Lissa Reitz said.
 
Target’s deal with the arena expires after the 2010-2011 season, Wolves
CEO Rob Moor said. Discussion about extending the arrangement will soon
get under way.
 
In Moor’s mind, the new Twins deal "solidifies the relationship that
Target would want to have with us and the presence they’d want to have"
in the Warehouse and North Loop areas.
