Game Previews:
Gasol plays with Rubio on the Spanish national team. He said the 18-year-old point guard someday can be a “very special player” after he arrives in the NBA.

Asked if Rubio has “star” potential, Gasol said, “I don’t know about star. I don’t know about franchise potential. Definitely a guy who will make things easier for everybody else. He’s got leadership in him. He’s not shy at all. He will make a presence for himself. He will definitely be a great point guard to have.”

Not that Brewer isn’t working hard to get himself out of this slu … er, low ebb. The past two days, he has spent time before and after practices with Fred Hoiberg, a 43 percent shooter in 10 NBA seasons. “Sometimes as a shooter, when you’re struggling, it’s easier to find your rhythm on the road,” Hoiberg said. “I went through a time in Chicago when I was in a horrible shooting slump, and sometimes you hear the catcalls at home, and it’s just easier to go out on the road and find your game a little bit.

Theus is having to adjust on the fly once again. Having learned about being an NBA head coach for the first time in Sacramento, he is equally inexperienced as an NBA assistant coach. Theus’ duties are at times vague and other times specific, from working with players when needed to writing opponent scouting reports for approximately 20 of the Timberwolves’ games this season.

So far, Rambis said, Theus has been a good fit.

“He’s done an incredible job,” Rambis said. “I wanted (assistant coaches) who understand the game, guys that have assistant-coaching experience, guys who have head-coaching experience, and tried to assimilate as many of those guys as I possibly could …
