Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages: the NBA proudly brings to you tonight’s heavyweight championship live on pay per view.  Kevin Garnett/Carmela Anthony. Mike James/Earl Boykins.  Randy Foye/and um… Yakhouba Diawara???  It’s the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets squaring off in their first meeting of the 2006-2007 NBA Season!

Ever since their 2004 first round matchup in which the Wolves embarrased the Nuggets, (Well, I guess that’s debatable, since the Nuggets classlessness was far more embarrassing than any pounding they took on the court) these two teams have been bitter rivals.  More often than not, their meetings have been described as a fight where a basketball game broke out.

[ad2] Unfortunately for T-Wolves fans such as myself, the Nuggets have decidedly taken the upper hand for the past two seasons, managing to make two playoffs appearances and capture one division title while the Wolves have taken two trips to the draft lottery.  However, while Denver’s thuggish antics may never be outdone, the Timberwolves are primed and ready to reclaim their rightful position as the elite team in the Northwest.

Tonight’s game will allow the Wolves to take their first steps towards turning their struggling franchise around.  And you can rest assured that Kevin Garnett has his locker room focused on doing just that. While the lack of brawlers like Latrell Sprewell, Sam Cassell, and Michael Olowokandi in the Wolves lineup will probably decrease the odds of tonight turning into Pacers/Pistons: The Sequel, Mike James, Ricky Davis, Marko Jaric and The Big Ticket will do their best to make sure tonight is a must-see event for every Wolves fan.  It’s a battle of the Northwest heavyweights worth of a pay-per view.  And the Wolves are ready to knock the Thuggets out!

As long as they play fair don’t bite our ear off…
