There were some extreme highs and lows to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2014-15 season. The lows, of course, resulted in the Wolves finishing with the worst record in the NBA — which had more to do with excessive injuries to most of their core talent — but at the same time, they had some really enjoyable highs, too, involving the development of their young players. Most notably, their centerpiece of the future, Andrew Wiggins, was named the league’s Rookie of the Year, while fellow rookie Zach LaVine also shined and even won the Slam Dunk competition at last year’s All-Star break.
To top off a rather forgetful season, the Timberwolves traded for Kevin Garnett in the latter half of the campaign, bringing back their franchise leader in almost every important statistical category, including points scored, minutes played, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and so on and so forth. Garnett will be a mentor for current Timberwolves players, including the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Karl Anthony-Towns from Kentucky.
Towns was the unanimous No. 1 selection in this year’s draft and is expected to help the Timberwolves win games right away. To go along with Wiggins, LaVine, energetic point guard Ricky Rubio, talented scorer Kevin Martin, underrated big man Nikola Pekovic, and emerging youngster Shabazz Muhammad, this is probably the most talented Timberwolves roster from top-to-bottom that the franchise has produced in some time.
Minnesota partakes in their first preseason game on October 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which is a sign that the NBA regular season is just about three weeks away. On October 28, the Timberwolves have their first game of the season against the Los Angeles Lakers on the road at the Staples Center. According to SeatSmart.com, Minnesota Timberwolves tickets on the secondary market have an average price of $265.58 with a get-in price of $67 for their opening game of the new year.
As for the rest of the season, the most expensive Timberwolves game comes on April 5 against the defending champion Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena, having an average ticket price of $741.84 with a get-in price of $61. The next two most expensive Timberwolves games are at home at the Target Center opposite the Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies, respectively. On January 23, the average ticket price against the Grizzlies is $325.02 with a get-in price of $27. Tickets to see the Thunder on January 12 at the Target Center, meanwhile, feature an average price of $320.70 with a get-in price of $63.
The Timberwolves would love to see how high Wiggins’ ceiling really is. At 19-years-old, Wiggins averaged 16.9 points per game with 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and a steal. The future is bright for the T-wolves, something that has been said before but hasn’t come into fruition. As long as they can keep their guys healthy, especially with Rubio leading the way and distributing the ball as well as anyone in the NBA, Minnesota could easily end up being one of the major surprise teams this season.
